A man from Washington state created a novel Valentine’s Day gift for his wife this year, using thousands of wine corks to create a mosaic portrait of her.

Nathan Rebman told a local new station it took about 36 hours of work to create the wine cork mosaic. Rebman is a builder by trade. He acquired many of the corks from his friends and neighbors.

Some of the wine corks were dyed to appear darker, while others were left with their natural color.

“When I finally got the eyes and mouth right, it worked,” Rebman explained. “Definitely the eyes were the hardest part, because you’ve only got so many corks to work.”

His wife Trisha said she was amazed and surprised by the unique gift.
